Week 4- B & b

Monday: B and b
Song: The Alphabet Song
Book:
My "b" Book by Jane Belk Moncure
Activity: Color B and b
 Treat: Banana Cookies
Nathan usually has a hard time trying new foods, but today it was different.  Maybe it was because his treat was banana flavored cookies.  He just loves bananas.  I have decided that Nathan will have one treat for the whole week instead of three new treats each week.

Wednesday: Bears
Song:  Teddy Bear Song:

Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground
Teddy bear, teddy bear, reach up high
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the sky
Teddy bear, teddy bear, bend down low
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch your toes
Teddy bear, teddy bear, go upstairs
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the light
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say goodnight"

Book:
Bears on Chairs by Shirley Parenteau
 Activity: Bear Hunt

(Start tapping legs one at a time with the children) Chant We're going on a bear hunt (children repeat) We're going to catch a big one (children repeat) I'm not scared (children repeat) Cause I've got my flashlight (pretend to hold up a flashlight into the air) (children repeat) Do you see what I see? (shade your eyes with your hand) (children repeat) It's a tall tall tree (children repeat) Can't go over it (children repeat) Can't go under it (children repeat) Can't go through it (children repeat) We'll have to climb up it (children repeat) (pretend to climb up a tree and come back down)

Start over again go through as many obstacles as you can. i.e. tall grass (rub hands together) river (pretend to put bathing suit on and swim) mud (walk slow) mountain You finally come to the cave. make it as scary as you like, whisper, walk slow, turn on your flashlight if your scared) Pretend to see the bear and scream (I brought my teddy bear and through it into the middle at this point, it was great for effect) and run (tap legs very quickly) backward through the mud river and tall grass back to your home where you can lock the door! My best advice is to really throw yourself into the fun and try to make it somewhat real.

Treat: Banana Cookies

Friday: Birds
Song:

Book:
Mole and the Baby Bird by Marjorie Newman
Activity: Listen and look for birds outside
Treat: Banana Cookies

Nathan loves to go walking outside.  But he doesn't like us to hold his hand.  However, while he was walking on the grass at the park he wanted me to hold his hand.  Then as soon as we were off the grass he let go of my hand.  He started falling asleep eating his treat again.  Hopefully he will be able to get a 2 hour nap in today.  He didn't sleep well during the early hours of today.  He woke up 6 or 7 times between 2 am and 5 am.  So I didn't get good sleep either.

Week 1- All About Me

Monday: Mouth & Nose
Song: Head, Shoulders, Knees, And Toes

Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
 Eyes, ears, mouth, and nose
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
 (Repeat, getting faster each time)

Book:
All of Baby Nose to Toes by Victoria Adler

Nose to Toes by Marilyn Ballie
Activity: Where is puppy's _________?  Finding the puppy's mouth, nose, eyes, and ears.  Focusing of course on the mouth and nose.  Then doing the same thing on me and him.

Treat: Goldfish Crackers

Nathan wasn't too interested in our Laugh, Learn, & Play Time today.  However, maybe my choice of location, his play room, wasn't the best learning environment.  He had too many toys that drew his attention away from me.  So maybe our front room will be a better location for Wednesday.  I was able to get him to point to the puppy's nose a couple of times.  I do know that this time that I spend with Nathan will be good for him.

Wednesday: Eyes & Ears
Song: Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes
Book:
My Five Senses by Aliki Brandenberg

The Ear Book by Al Perkins
Activity: A coloring page of eyes and ears.

Treat: Cheerios & Craisins
So after day two I decided that one book is all that Nathan can handle at a time.  Lucky for Nathan we had gone out to eat Monday night for dinner at Village Inn and got four crayons.  So he was able to color his picture of the eyes and ears in red, green, blue, and yellow.  He kept on going for the yellow crayon even though it hardly shows up on his paper.  At least he had fun.  He had a lot of fun laughing at me while I sang Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.

Friday: Hands & Feet
Song:
I Wiggle (Children's Song Book 271)
Book:
Clap Your Hands by Lorinda Bryan Cauley
Activity: Trace our hands and feet and then color them.

Treat: Vanilla Wafers

It worked a lot better today to just read one book.  It wasn't the easiest to trace Nathan's foot and hand.  I thought that it would be cool to trace Nathan's foot and hand inside of mine.  This was the first time Nathan had vanilla wafers & he loved them.  He loves to feed himself & to be able to crunch his food.
